Vibration Analysis
What are Unwanted Vibrations?
Vibration is a mechanical phenomenon whereby oscillations occur about an equilibrium point. However, excessive vibration is undesirable in industrial machinery such as engines, motors, rotors, bearings etc. because energy is wasted, and unwanted sound is created causing loss of life of the machinery. Such vibrations could be caused by imbalances in the rotating parts, uneven friction, or the meshing of gear teeth. Careful designs usually minimize unwanted vibrations.
What is Vibration Phenomenon?
Sound, or pressure waves, are generated by vibrating structures; these pressure waves can also induce the vibration of structures. Hence, attempts to reduce noise are often related to issues of vibration.
What is Vibration Analysis?
Vibration Analysis (VA) is performed periodically on industrial machinery in order to study their vibrations and in the consequence to do necessary arrangements for the elimination of unwanted vibrations. VA is actually aimed to reduce maintenance costs and equipment downtime by detecting equipment faults. VA is a key component of a Condition Monitoring (CM) program, and is often referred to as Predictive Maintenance (PdM). Most commonly VA is used to detect faults in rotating equipment (Fans, Motors, Pumps, and Gearboxes etc.) such as Unbalance, Misalignment, rolling element bearing faults and resonance conditions.
